Does this mean that for best results one should always oil the top oil lens on
the Olympus universal condenser?
Obviously.
Even very careful reading regarding the use of the top oil lens does not
answer the question, whether it [the oil toplens] can optimally be used without oil for aper-
tures up to 0.9. I would appreciate any help with clarification of this issue.
If you use an oil objective in air you will still get an image. I
leave it for your homework what kind of abberation is introduced.
There's also always reduction of glare by using oil immersion lenses.
Whether and how much these two effects in a condenser influences your
image quality you will have to judge for yourself. Generally speaking
variation in slide making practise will have far more impact on image
quality then oiling the condenser or not (at nA<1).
Learned enough?
