Dear Nikon Friends,

Yes, the plastic gear on the black Nikons breaks!

The way I understand it and the way it worked on an SKE
I purchased new in the 70s and which I used very little is, that
the Nylon of which the gear is made dries out, contracts around
the brass hub on which it is mounted and then breaks.

This gear is no longer available from Nikon.

There are ways to repair the broken gear. A better way may be
to contact the writer of the following mail, which I received some
time ago:

Good Day,

We now have the Nikon gear in stock. The cost of the gear is $75.00 that
will need to be pressed on to your hub. If you wish to have us press the
gear onto your hub the additional cost will be $30.00 + S&H.

Thank you for your interest,

I hope this message will help you and other Nikon owners. I do have some
7 of the black Nikon scopes myself.
