Put away your wallet. Get over the universal parental fallacy that buying
equipment has any critical role in your child's education.
Buying exercise equipment won't make your child fit, buying a Steinway
won't make her a pianist, and buying a microscope won't make her a
microscopist.
You can improvise what you need to get started. We are in a golden age of
discovery via the Web. There is plenty of microscopic activity for a child
that doesn't require a "real" microscope. Once your kid shows genuine
interest in the actual work, and you learn what actual microscopy is all
about, you can think about buying something. Until then, you can't help
but waste your time and money. You will buy something that will never be
used past Christmas morning.
