Recommendation was normal with the microscopes of yesteryear (my Zeiss
Jena Ng for example). I understood during transport, a bump could
cause a dent in the fine focus gear: you wouldn't want that halfway
the travel of the finegear, instead turn the fine travel at the
extreme end. It makes sense to turn the stage down for practical
reasons.
