Re: Repairing A Stuck Condensor Iris

The cost to my company is minimal. I use about 1.5 liters every 3
months. Heptane is less likely to flame, in fact one key fact about
heptane is you can put a match out in it. Now that only works if you
do it quickly, wait around and your barbecued. The other thing is get
fresh heptane, the smell of old heptane will gross you out.

What goes wrong as it ages? I thought it was stable.

Coleman fuel, lighter fluid and gasoline are a bit explosive. Thats a
tiny problem. I promised that I wouldn't blow my self up.

How about mineral spirits?

I haven't worked on a microscope diaphragm but have cleaned quite a few
camera lens diaphragms. Alcohol usually works; mineral spirits works
better; lighter fluid works but, as you say, tends to give off a lot of
highly flammable vapor.
