Your general experience may supersede mine but when disassembling a
suspect mechanism, especially
those that are complex only by afterthought or might have bearings or
springs. Some experience has given me a few tips. For maximum certainty,
put the item in a cardboard box covered with clear stretch wrap on the
open top. Cut side arm holes in the box. Use a grease pencil or other
marker to note position on parts and number them before taking them off.
Take pictures. Make diagrams. In the case of loose bearings or small,
delicate parts in place, sometimes you can temporary immobilize subunits
with stretch wrap.

The box is especially good for keeping springs or bearings from finding
novel refuges in your shop that
were previously outside of your awareness.

Hi Edward,
thanks for your useful suggestions: I'll clean my desktop, take pictures at
every step and put all the parts in ONE box. Yes, it even happens to me that
things get difficult only by afterthought :)

In the meantime, by forcing the knobs of this witched microscope, I hurt
myself and the wound became purulent in few hours. I examined the pus under
the microscope at 63x and found some isolated cocci and many capsulated
bacilli I've drawn here

So, fearing some gangrene because my hand was turning brown, I
immediately started to take ciprofloxacin, and now it seems to me that my
hand doesn't presents pus anymore.

It's my turn, now, to give a suggestion to all microscopists: keep
disinfectants handy when working.
