The new Nikons seem to be powder-coated. This is also used in the car-
section and in many metalprocessing industries. You might find a local
small industry who will do this for you. Also try forums for old
cars...

You are welcome. One word of caution if you go for paint strippers, get the
gels/slurries and wear
protection. The stuff was not made for beneficial human contact.
