Re: Infinity spaces in Wild M5?

I'm not familiar with that specific model, but looking at photos on the
Web, it appears to be an infinity design where the binocular head comes off
easily for the insertion of a beamsplitter or other accessory? The tube
lenses would be part of the binocular assembly and not the eyepieces per
se. If you lift the binocular assembly it should stay in focus.

Right. My observation is that upon disassembly of the binocular
"head", there are no tube lenses in evidence. It appears that the
optical train consists of:
(1) CMO objective
(2) Gallilean telescopes on rotating turret
--- head piece removes here ---
(3) erecting prisms
(4) eyepieces

As I mentioned above, if I hold an eyepiece to my eye above the
telescopes (e.g. head removed, eyepiece removed from head), I can
focus on the specimen plane, but only with the eyepiece at one
particular distance above the telescope. This all makes me think it's
not an infinity design...

Tomorrow I'll try lifting the whole head piece (binocular assembly)
from its mount to see if things stay in focus.
