Re: Infinity spaces in Wild M5?

An update:

(1) The M5 model I have does not have infinity optics: raising the
binocular head up (after loosening it from its mounts) changes the
focus.

(2) So, the reason I wanted to build my own phototube system was to
have more flexibility adding filters, etc. to the optical path, and to
have a clear view of the other set of telescopes so that I could mount
the LED fluorescence excitation system I'm building. (Vendors are
charging $600+ for what appears to be a $10 blue Luxeon V LED
[brightest currently available in the GFP excitation spectrum], a $20
DC power regulator, and a AC transformer!)

Perhaps I'll get relay lenses from Edmund and just mount them at the
proper distance -- once I figure out what that is.
Something like these might do the trick, but perhaps I could get by
with a less-packaged (cheaper) system?

(3) The point about the lack of telecentrism is a good one. I can
calibrate the camera to take care of distortions (via image un-
warping), but it's better to not have any in the first place. The
application is watching developing organisms in microtiter plates, and
the imaging and measurements will be quantitative...

Anyhow, I'll start a second discussion about the application to
solicit advice from people about the system I should build for this.
Perhaps the M5, though it has the virtue of being free and optically
quite nice, isn't the right way to go.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice!
