Thanks, I'd seen these too, but they are also expensive for the
amateur who only wants small quantities, and is on a tight budget.

There appear to be some organic liquids, phenol or naphtha based with
high RIs, and some types of high vacuum oil as used in EM pumps seem
to have a RI in the region of 1.69, which might make an interesting
though messy (or fluid mount) for diatoms. Any views on this, please?
