Were is the gear? I don't remember a plastic gear on an SM-Lux. Of
course they were made once every year to two years so they varied
based on batch.

It's the gear between the focus knob gear and the one that moves the plate
up&down
Weird (and pretty dumb) that Leitz used a plastic things inside their
instruments.
