Re: Anyone know where to buy semi-silvered glass?

I've a Cooke Troughton & Simms scope whose original reflector was
certainly half-silvered, but broken. I managed to replace it with a
suitably-shaped bit of coverslip (unsilvered) and it works - it's not
brilliant, but usable.

But I'm on the same hunt as you, for a source of a better long-term fix.

Thanks. I had an e-mail yesterday from someone with an older Watson metallurgical microscope. The reflector in the older microscope is plain glass. I'm trying to get a definite answer about the reflector in the later metallurgical microscopes, but it certainly seems that some used plain glass.

I also measured the frame which carries the reflector. The round piece of glass would have been approximately 1" in diameter by 1/64" thick, but some variation on these dimensions could be accommodated. Now it seems to me that it would be very easy to break a piece of glass that thin when installing it, so it would be good to have several pieces. I was wondering if it might be possible to get 1" diameter round glass cover slips. Anyone know?

Many thanks,

Chris
