Question about the Zeiss Photomicroscope III: did this scope perform
correction in the eyepieces, or were the objectives already corrected?
It's 160mm tube length design, correct? I'm trying to analyze whether we
can just stick a digital sensor on the top and get a corrected image in
direct projection.

yes, I think you can.
When you use a DIGICAM the field of view size will be smaller / you
will photograph a round image with a black ring if you go on top of
the tubus.
If you are using a TARGET only (camera without objective), then :
If you have a phototubus, it should be no problem because the image
will be sharp at 160 mm (depends on your objectives).
You also can mount the target directly on top of the tubus instead of
the eyepiece.
