Hello,
I've not found ratings or reviews about this miscroscope. Anyone has
experiences with it?.

Thank you

I've worked on a few and their complete crap. Poorly designed, poorly
made, crap.

Thank you very much.

And the Reichert Microstar IV?. Is it good?.

Essaouira

Sorry, the single worst microscope ever produced. It killed of the
production of microscopes in America. I'd avoid this "microscope"
like the plague. You kinda lucky to find one, they have just about
all died.

Try to find an instrument made by Zeiss, the real one, Leitz, Olympus
or Nikon. Sometimes you can find a Wild compound or an AO (either a
10 or a 110), they are all good.

Las one, a Wild M12???.

Thank you very much Kevin

The Wild M12 is an excellent instrument. Wilds tend to be quite well
built, long lived and constructed to take a lot of abuse and still
look good. If it has the accessories you want, then go for it.

And about compatibility between different brands?. For example if I
get a Zeiss microscope, can I use Wild or Leitz accesories (eyepieces,
objectives, phase contrat, etc?. Where can I find a compatibility
table?.

Thanks again

There is no compatibility table, forget that! There is effectively no
compatibility between brands except for cameras, they are afocal so
just about any camera works on any microscope if you can focus the
camera. You can screw some objectives into some other microscopes but
they won't work as well, a lot of things have to be corrected, like
lateral color, and that can be done at the eyepiece or the objective,
some use one, other use the other.

If you buy a microscope you have to be sure that you like the whole
line because your buying into the whole line. Its like being married,
you just got a whole other family that you will have to but up with.
My mother married an orphan, she suggested that solution to me!

That is the big problem with Wild, they are a part of Leica and from
source I've talked to, they really don't exist except for their design
staff.

Thank you.

And between Zeiss and Leitz?. I am thinking about a Standard 14, 16 or
a Leitz SM or HM-LUX, as I suppose Ortholux or Dialux are older and
worst. Which line is more available, the Zeiss or Leitz?.

Sorry for the amount of questions, as you can figure I am a newbie!.

Either one works and works well, the Ortho's are some of the best
microscopes available. Leitz or Zeiss? You want a good microscope,
get one, one of each is better...

Personally, I'd go for Zeiss. Leitz were superb optically, but later
models (inc mine!) were not designed brilliantly and do not have
compatibility with other Leitz models. Zeiss, on the other hand,
designed in compatibility for some, but not all models. There is lots
of Zeiss stuff around secondhand, far more than leitz, and they are
pretty well as good as Leitz optically, and will last forever. Zeiss
kit is beautifully made, and Leitz tends to use more plastic,
sometimes in vulnerable places like gears. My recommendation is to get
yourself a Zeiss Standard - reasonably priced and ideal for all but
the most esoteric applications. I do agree with Kevin that the more
microscopes you can sneak into the house the better! But make 'em good
ones, 'cos you'll stop using the second best pretty quickly. I have
Leitz for brightfield, Zeiss for phase contrast and darkfield, and can
swap specimens between instruments very conveniently. Good darkfield
is so beautiful that it is useful for convincing wife/gf/partner that
good kit is a top household expenditure priority.
bests, hj

Thank you,

How good are Will Wetzlar microscopes?. Any comments on V-365?.

Will was and is junk. The only use for them, in the good ole days was
putting Will objectives on the Wild so the Wild could be sold for less
money. Darn few Americans could understand the differences between
"Will" and "Wild", particularly with a fake German accent. Out side
of that, junk.

So I think the best choice of all would be a Zeiss Standard, as I
don't ask about PZO and LOMO's, suppose they are junk too. Do you know
the differences between Standards WL, GPL, etcs?.

Thanks

For a bench top microscope there's a lot to be said for Nikon, E.
Leitz and Olympus. Right now, for a new brightfield bench top
instrument there is a lot to say for the two Japanese brands.

If I were looking for a Standard I'd look for a Standard 16, it just
plain works and works well. Then get some good objectives and, since
I'm spending your money, I'd get the DIC accessories or some really
neat fluorescence. And yes, I know the Zeiss names, all of them, over
and over and.......
