you are asking for a good microscope but you are jumping between new
infinity corrected cheaper ones
and old 160mm or 170 mm corrected microscopes older than me and
probably you are....
If you want good colours you should look for a newer Olympus. I would
not consider a Zeiss standard or junior after I looked through a BZ50.
If you are a medical student, then a modern Will should be OK. I
slightly disagree with Kevin here, they are not all crap exceply for
the inverted ones. These ARE crap, don't touch them because they are
shaky. You will become seasick....
If you want to work with the microscope you should consider more
modern ones. Actally, it looks tempting to buy a Junior for 150.-,
there are tons of spare parts available, but these microscopes are
cheap because they are not state of the art. Cave, many "Juniors" are
offered as "Standard" on ebay just because someone made them
binocular.
And remember, most parts out there are some 30-40 years old!
If you want to look at insects, then none of these microscopes would
be suitable for you. Insects don't fit under the objectives and can't
be illuminated.
Tell us a bit about your intentions and your budget and we might be
able to push you in the right direction.

I am a serious amateur, I want a modular microscope that I can use for
a variety of applications, such as phase contrast, fluorescence,
darkfield, etc. My budget is around 350-400 EURO. The mail goal is
modularity, as I would surely like to expand possibilities.
