I recently bought a Labolux (mid 60’s) to follow a rekindled interest

One drawback that I didn’t see was the difficulty in setting up Köhler
illumination – there’s no field diaghram in the built-in illuminator.
This wouldn’t be such an issue if I had the original Berek condenser,
but I don’t; I’m using a 600 series condenser.
Short of using an external lamp, does anyone have a  solution to this
little problem?

Hello Trevor

If the lamp field lens is flat on the stand base you could add either
an iris diaphragm (eg from junk saes, camera shop junk box etc) or
make card stops measured to size. This topical tip by Ian Walker on
the Micscape site shows some routes.
