Hi,
I posted a note a few weeks back that I was looking to purchase a
stereomicroscope. I ened up buying a used Nikon smz-10 and am having a
little bit of trouble with the focus. In contrast to the cheaper used
Bausch & Lomb 4 stereozoom I had before my eyes have been extra swimmy
using the Nikon so far. My one thought is that perhaps it has to do
with the eyepieces and that I have yet to get the focus right for
those. The Nikon came with wf 10x/20 eyepieces. My eyes are 20/20 so I
began by just setting both the eyepieces to 10x each and then
adjusting the focus with the main knob on the base but so far it is
still less then ideal. I'm not sure whether it might be an issue with
1) the eyepieces themselves; 2) my focusing of the eyepieces; or 3)
the focal distance from the eyepieces (maybe rubber eyecups would
help?). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Most of what I'm
working with is ~2 mm in size or larger so relatively low
magnification is what I'm going for.
Thanks,
Paul
Paul,
You can't set the eyepieces to 10X so that might be problem one. If I
remember correctly you have two focusable eyepieces. Start at -0- for
the eyepieces and using a coin or something similar focus on it. The
zoom to the highest power and focus again. Now zoom back to the
lowest power and correct the focus for each eye using the individual
eyepiece focus. Now you should have corrected for your eyes and the
microscope should be in focus at any power.
Of course you should always wear your glasses if you need any.
Let us know how this goes.
Thanks,
Kevin Cunningham
