This suggests an f2.5 lens with 25mm focal length.  About 7X on a
microscope.

Richard,

Thanks for helping me out.

Is there a formula to get from f:2.5 and 25 mm focal lenght to ± 7x
on the microscope ?
This is the core of my problem ; how do I calculate the magnification
of mine 4 Leitz Wetzlar objectives on the revolver.

From biggest magnification on the microscope to smallest:
Photar 1: 2.5 /25
Photar 1:4 / 50
Macro 1,7/1:8
Macro 0,8/1:16

many thanks,

.
