Hello - how can I find what sized crosshair reticle I need for my
Leica 10445111 (on a Wild M3Z). Is it just a matter of using calipers?
Also, will I need a retaining ring? I have contacted klarmann, but
need the glass diameter.
This is general advice not specific to your Leica item.
You can disassemble the eyepiece as if to install a reticle to measure
the diameter which would fit (such as with calipers) and to inspect
whether you need additional parts. Typically you're removing a threaded
ring or other field stop item, and no other parts are needed.
If you need a retaining part which isn't available, you can improvise
with a spot of glue, a standard rubber O-ring, a bit of stiff wire bent
in a circle, etc. Or just let gravity hold it in place and handle
appropriately.
For 23.2mm barrel eyepieces, 19mm and 21mm are common reticle diameters.
For 30mm barrel eyepieces, 23mm is a common reticle diameter.
You can find very cheap reticle specimens at http://www.surplusshed.com
to experiment with, although not necessarily in a useful pattern.
