I have in front of me a Nikon Labophot. Its stage slowly creeps
downward due to gravity...with the fine focus knob slowly turning in
response to the stage creep. Is there an user adjustment that I can
make to correct this problem? Also what causes the focus assembly to
do this...obviously it did not do this before.

I would like to find a copy of the user and accessory documents that
apply to this instrument....can you point me to where one might find
it?

Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

Undo the grubscrews in the fine focus knobs. Pull off the knobs. At
one end  of the fine focus shaft there should be a delrin washer, at
the other end there should be a delrin washer and and a metal washer
that has a kink in it. Bend the washer a little, to increase the kink.
Grease the washers and re assemble. Compress the metal washer slightly
when refitting the knob. It is the tension against the metal washer
that prevents the stage freewheeling down. The amount of pressure is
trial and error as too much will make the fine focus feel rough and
too little will make the fine focus slip.

Dave,

First I want to thank you for the quick response..I am impressed.

I examined the scope and while there are two delrin washers, one under
each fine focus knob, there is no metal compression washer present.

If as you say the compression washer controls the tension on the fine
focus, then this would explain why this scope has been experiencing
stage creep. The scope was serviced about a year ago and I suspect
that replacement of the compression washer during servicing was
overlooked.

Any idea where one can get a suitable compression washer...other than
Nikon?

Also does anyone know of where one can find the user and accessory
documentation for the Labophot series?

Thanks
.
