Heh, many B-string mfrs and sometimes even the supposedly good ones<pmoscate...@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message...>
I found this website:
http://www.ppgift.com/magnifiers_+.htm
Best of luck, but how can they possibly have "10x" magnification
(25mm
or 25.4mm focal length!) and 2 inch diameter (?) = 51mm?! or even
35mm
diameter? I don't see a little sublens like some magnifiers have
that
could make it e.g. 2x with small 10x insert. Really, imagine if it
really uses the whole 50mm at 25mm fl, that's f/0.5 and NA 0.71.-

I'll try them out and let you know what I think. I sent for them.
Phil
So I got the magnifiers in the mail and tried them out.
1. 10x 2 inch Glass Lens Folding Pocket Magnifier item #10PKT
2. 10x 35mm Lighted Hand Held Round Body Magnifier item #10xL35
3. FREE A 5x, Pocket or Purse Key Chain Magnifier...Maybe it's me, but
I thought it was supposed to be 10x instead of 5x....????
Well anyway, the 10x 35mm Lighted Hand Held Round Body Magnifier item
#10xL35 and the FREE A 5x Pocket or Purse Key Chain Magnifier seem to
have the same magnification to me. The 10x 2 inch Glass Lens Folding
Pocket Magnifier item #10PKT has less magnification than the other
two. This is all new to me and I don't have another 10x magnifier
around to compare them with so I'm not sure what the magnifications
are.
The 10x 35mm Lighted Hand Held Round Body Magnifier item is nice
because the light makes a big difference in seeing your subject
matter. But, the on-off switch is so loose that I have to tape it in
the off position or risk draining the batteries when not in use.
The 10x 2 inch Glass Lens Folding Pocket Magnifier is more like a
strong little magnifying glass. It's also very loose on it's hinge and
slides out of it's protective case easily.
The FREE A 5x (or is it 10x), Pocket or Purse Key Chain Magnifier is a
nice little item to carry around. I can't complain for free and it
works ok.
Phil
cheat when giving magnification, for magnifiers, field glasses, etc. The
standard for magnifiers is supposed to be, M = 250mm/f or maybe 254mm/f
in nod to English system. A real 10x is quite powerful and can't have a
big lens at affordable rates.
Yet telescope and microscope magnifications are almost always correct
(and often *too high* to be useful, instead of not as much as
advertised!)
Glad you are mostly happy with what you got, that's what matters most.
