Camera for SMZ-1000

Hello Group,
I have a SMZ-1000 with P-IBSS camera port. Also an extension tube for
the camera port. The tube appears to accept a camera adapter that is
approx 41mm diameter. I am in need of a camera and adapters.
I know that Nikon sells a C-mount adapter that fits the P-IBSS. I
don't know if there are additional lenses that need to go between
camera and C-mount adapter. Would it not be ideal to have the image
fall directly on the imaging chip ?
My goals for the camera are simple, a megapixel or better color model
adequate for documentation. There is plenty of light and no need for a
perfect imager. Ideally it would be something on the smaller side,
preferably with a USB connection but firewire is OK too. If special
software is required then it would need to be compatible with Vista.
I see various no-name cameras on eBay that seem like they might do the
job but I have no clue what it would take to adapt one mechanically
and optically, or if there is some significant limitation even for
this application. I could appreciate the low cost if one was
reasonably decent.
