Re: Camera for SMZ-1000

I know that Nikon sells a C-mount adapter that fits the P-IBSS. I
don't know if there are additional lenses that need to go between
camera and C-mount adapter. Would it not be ideal to have the image
fall directly on the imaging chip ?

Infinity optics in the Nikon objective of this instrument requires a lens
in the beamsplitter-photoport path. The optics of a c-mount adapter also
scales the image to various sizes of video sensor chips.

My goals for the camera are simple, a megapixel or better color model
adequate for documentation.

An eyetube USB camera would be a cheaper approach; then you don't even need
the beamsplitter, although it is more clumsy to have to swap in a camera in
and out for an eyepiece.

A point-and-shoot camera on an eyepiece adapter would be cheapest.
