Hi,

A closer inspection of the unit revealed a second heater for the hotplate
and that one was dead... Contrary to what I tought previously, the heaters
aren't standard cemented resistors, as these are only availlable for 10W
max.

As dimensions were no real problem I replaced the dead heater using a
regular, slightly larger 1K/50W power resistor. I had some trouble finding
heat resistant wire but finally I managed to find some from a defunkt
kitchen stove.

The unit works fine now: the hotplate reaches a temperature of some 90°C
using the highest setting of the temperature control.

Thanks again for your advice!

Yvan.
