You can see a few hundred on Ebay. They look fine, but are the mechnics
and optics crap?
I tried a student polarising scope from Radical Instruments, India and
found the following:
- screws used to mount condenser were so thick the condenser couldn't
be focussed on a field iris as a condenser should
- the quartz wedge supplied wasn't, it showed a single colour under
crossed polars
- the built in Bertrand lens didn't work
I chatted to the company and they sent me some bodges to get it to
work, but unfortunately I got the impression they didn't know what
they were making, for this stand anyway.
Although believe the country of origin alone is no guide nowadays.
It's who is overseeing quality control, A colleague's Leica CME was
labelled as made in India.
The site below has a good guide as to the countries where big name
scopes are made nowadays.
