Hi everyone,

Forgive me if I ask a basic question but I have just bought an old C
Baker binocular microscope (I think the model number is 0465) and it
only came with one objective and I want to buy some more but don't
know enough about them to see whether another brand would fit or not.
The objective I have is a x10 and it has 'two thirds of an inch'
written on it (numerically) and n.a 0.25. Could anyone advise me in
this area? Many thanks!

You can probably get close to parfocal with other makers adjectives
but you need to find out whether the Baker objectives are short barrel
or long barrel.  Then you can start looking at dealers sites or e-bay.

Agreed, please can you post the length of your objective and any other
markings on it?. Parfocality is nice but not essential, and your best
bet might be to pick up a cheapo branded objective and try it. If it
works ok, you could assume that other objectives by the same maker
would probably work OK. You should probably stick with 160mm tube
length objectives, avoid 170mm ones, and do not even think about
infinity corrected objectives which have a little oo infinity sign on
them. If your existing objective has "160" on it, that is the tube
length for your instrument, and for any objective purchases. Look for
russian/biolam/zenith objectives on ebay if yours is a short
objective, and look for vickers objectives if a long one. These go for
really cheap money and are quite good quality, so even if it doesn't
work you will not have lost much, and will get most of your money back
by reselling it. Please post details of the existing objective for
further advice. If you are in the UK, try www.usedmicroscopes.co.uk
They are reputable, and have modest prices, and if you called them
first, would probably swap a purchase if unsuitable. Hope this helps,
Hugo J.
