Re: Reichert Polyvar SC operating instructions etc. requested


Just for the heck of it, I do some work for Class One Equipment
(www.classoneequipment.com), they have both the SC and a Met.  I doubt
if we have any documentation.  I have no idea why manufacturers don't
put all those instruction manuals and repair drawings on their web
sites.  But they didn't ask me......

This is a big problem. Neither Zeiss and Leica guarantee to support
anything over 10 years old. Given that they make instruments that will
last maybe 10 times that, this policy seems to be driven simply by the
wish to force customers into buying the latest model. If you went to
Rolls-Royce to ask for help with your 1966 Silver Cloud they'd be all
over you. Sometimes I've been lucky enough to find some old geyser at
Zeiss etc who has an old parts manual in his filing cabinet but these
chaps have mostly retired and the people now in sales haven't even
heard of 160mm systems.

Not that the SC is old... it's an infinity system made in 1992 and I
believe continued until 1999, which, according to Leica policy, makes
it utterly obsolete now, fit for nothing but duty as a boat anchor.
But given that these scopes have all been used in a Class 10 cleanroom
they are mostly in top shape when the company running them goes
bankrupt (which is the main reason they turn up on the market).

Anyway, www.classoneequipment.com seem to have two manual SCs for
sale, not the Auto model, but they claim these have been refurbed to
factory standards, so presumably they do have some documentation or
else how would they be familiar with the factory standards?
