I find that with Xenon I have
to use 1 or 2 stacked
#8 ND filters so as not to bleach everything out, so maybe the P7
would be suitable for flash too - only one way to find out.....
Re xenon tubes why not just reduce the flash energy? Plenty of control
circuits to do this.
Re P7 as flash source, it seems to me that strobing the LED at 100
nanoseconds to freeze motion is precisely the same as keeping the LED
continuously on and taking a 100nS exposure with the camera. Since my
usual setup needs maybe a 50mS exposure (i.e. 1/20th S) I'd thus be
underexposing by a factor of 500, that is 9 stops. A 9-stop
underexposure won't work, I'm afraid. Keep the flash tube and relay
the LED image onto it, or put the LED just behind.
